What is a keto flu?

Many people decide to try a ketogenic diet to lose weight. Recent evidence suggests that minimizing carbohydrate intake can help to lose weight for at least the first few weeks to several months. However, we do not really know if in the long run, achieving and treating ketosis is better for weight loss than other diets. Almost every intervention can have adverse effects and a ketogenic diet. Nick is no different. One of the most widely reported complications of ketosis is the so-called "keto flu".

What is a keto flu?

Keto influenza is a symptom that can occur two to seven days after starting a ketogenic diet. Headaches, brain fog, weakness, irritability, nausea, difficulty sleeping, and constipation are just some of the symptoms of this condition, which are not well tolerated by medication. What causes keto flu?

We actually do not know why some people feel unwell after changing their diet. Is it related to detox factors? Is it because of carbohydrate intake or not? Is there an immune reaction? Or is this due to changes in the intestinal microbiome? Whatever the cause, the symptoms caused by keto flu can occur, not everyone. But it happens to some people after that "Cleaning" their food

What can I do for keto flu?

If you decide to change your diet for any reason and feel a little tired and hopeless, do not be offended and despair. Here are some tips:

  • No need to go online and buy expensive supplements. Many websites try to make a lot of money selling their products so that you can feel better without having to back up the claim.
  • Despite its name, it is not like the flu. You will not have a fever and its symptoms rarely make you incapable. If you feel unwell, see a doctor as other events may occur.
  • Make sure you drink plenty of water, some foods can dry you out.
  • Eat more often and make sure you have vegetables of various colors. Switching from a standard American diet rich in regular carbohydrates, trans fats, and saturated fats is a big change in how your cells use energy. Food is not just calories and energy. But also communication to your cells
  • Do not give up if you stick to the plan. You may feel tired for a few days. But on weekends your energy levels usually return to normal and you may feel better.
  • If all else fails, consider slowing down new foods instead of "cold turkey".

Unwanted symptoms may appear within the first few days after changing what you eat. But this should not be the determining factor in choosing what to put on your plate. Ideally, you should follow a complete and nutritious diet as possible, and the Mediterranean diet and the DASH diet have the best evidence to support a longer and healthier life.
